Candlelight & Moonlight Snowshoe, Ski, and Hike Events 2025

Enjoy an evening hike, snowshoe, or ski along a trail lit by the flickering flames of candles or lanterns, or by the glow of a winter moon.  It’s a great time to spend with your sweetie and/or family or heck, bring everyone.

Events are scheduled in January and February 2025.

2025 Candlelight Snowshoe, Ski, & Hike Events

Cadiz Springs State Recreational Area
 

A candlelight hike around Beckman Lake. The trail surface is mostly grass and level with little slope. Trail conditions may vary with weather.

Hot coco and refreshments will be at the shelter area by the beach. A park admission sticker is required.

Friends Of Devil’s Lake December Torchlit Hike

Please join the Friends of Devil’s Lake for the first of our seasonal torchlit hikes! 

Campfire Kevin will be in attendance welcoming guests with his well known music around the campfire. We hope to see you there!

The hike will take place at the Rock Elm Shelter (North Shore) near the North Shore Boat Launch.

Winter Solstice Hike

Join us on December 21st from 5-8pm to enjoy the Winter Solstice! The shortest day of the year, and the longest night, is traditionally seen as a sign of light and renewal before the days begin to slowly start extending their daylight hours.

                                                           A self guided hike, lit by luminaries on both sides of the trail decorated by Houdini Elementary student will kick off the Holiday season and start of the new year.

                                           This event is listed as a hike, however is weather dependent.  Snowshoes and skiis will be available to rent for a fee if snow allows. (6″ of snow is required in order to rent equipment.

                           S’mores and hot chocolate will also be available at the start of the trail for $1 each, where you can warm up next to a fire.

 The trail used for this hike is approximately 1.5 miles in length, and takes approximately 45 minutes to an hour to walk.  Please allow enough time complete the trail prior to 8pm.  Luminaries will be blown out and picked up promptly after 8pm.

   There are not refunds for cancellations; substitutes are permitted.  Refunds will be issued for programs cancelled by Bubolz due to low registration.

Candlelight Ski, Hike and Snowshoe

Join us at the Winter Recreation/Picnic Area for a torch-lit hike or ski through the woods. We will have an easy 1-mile trail lit for hikers and snowshoers and another easy 1-mile trail for skiers. Sleds are allowed on the hiking and snowshoeing trail. When you are not on the trails you can enjoy some goodies and hot chocolate provided by the Friends and stay warm around the roaring bonfires. Vehicles are required to have a valid admission pass. The office will be open through the event to purchase your pass or skip the line by purchasing online in advance. Pets are not allowed at this event.

Come join and explore the nature reserve to explore through winter fun for our starting theme in January ♥️
Snowshoes are $10 for rental and $20 for skis if you’d like to cross country ski. Rentals are determined based on snow and trail conditions. If conditions are not good we will continue inside the preserve

Havenwoods State Forest

Candlelight Hike

Spend some time outdoors and hike along a brief 0.75-mile portion of our trails lit by candlelight, then warm up afterward with s’mores and hot cocoa. 

Dress for the weather, wear your boots in case some sections get muddy and borrow some snowshoes from the nature center if there’s enough snow! 

This event is free and open to the public.

Bubolz Nature Preserve (LOCAL)

Brewski 2025

(Ski, snowshoe or hike…must be 21+)

We’re excited to debut a new format for our 6th annual BrewSki at Bubolz Nature Preserve, presented by Community First Credit Union.
This year’s event offers a more relaxed atmosphere. Head outside to explore the candlelit trails, then come back inside to warm up, hang out with friends, and enjoy a couple pints of beer or hard seltzers using your two drink tickets. Soda will be available for those looking for a non-alcoholic option. Tickets also include light snacks and hot chocolate to keep you cozy, with the roaring bonfire for a laid-back evening.
Please note: while this year’s BrewSki event will not be a large-scale sampling event as in years past, it is still a 21+ event and all guests will have their IDs checked at the door.
Schedule of Events:
*Open skiing, snowshoeing, or hiking from 5:00 – 7:30 PM (weather dependent).
*Participants can begin heading out on the trails anytime between 5:00 – 7:00 PM.
*Indoor hangout and beverages will be available until 8:00 PM.
*For everybody’s safety, please make sure to hit the trails BEFORE drinks.
Cost:
Advance tickets: $25 per person
Tickets day of event: $30 per person
Advance tickets will be available until midnight on Thursday, February 6th. If any tickets remain, they will be available for purchase at the event on a first come, first served basis for $30 per person.

Governor Thompson State Park

Candlelight Hike, Ski and Snowshoe

Join us for a one-mile candlelight hike/ski event at Governor Thompson State Park. The Friends of Governor Thompson State Park will hand out hot chocolate. A warming fire and heated shelter will be provided throughout the night. This event will take place regardless of snow conditions.

1000 Islands Nature Preserve (LOCAL)

Moonlit Sweetheart Hike & Storybook Walk Friday

Join us and the Kaukauna Public Library at 1000 Islands as we celebrate the moon. Take a hike along our lit-up trail. Then read “Owls: Hunters of the Night” by Elaine Landau on our kid-friendly boardwalk trail. Reading stations will be set up for a self-guided walk to read a page or two at each station. Visit each station to read the entire book. End the night by relaxing with your loved ones by the fire and enjoying some s’mores. Free Family Event

Hartman Creek State Park (LOCAL)

Candlelight Hike and Snowshoe

Embrace winter with family fun.
Join us for a family-friendly evening, hiking park trails lit by candlelight. Choose from several trails lit by over 500 luminaries. After your hike, stop by the warming fires for hot chocolate and a game of Hammerschlagen. Bring dinner and cook over our hot grills. Leashed pets allowed.
A limited number of snowshoes will be available for rent if there is snow.
Cash donations appreciated. All proceeds benefit the park.
A park vehicle admission pass is required. (Order online or purchase at the park entrance.)
Make it a weekend getaway. Stay the night in beautiful Waupaca, WI.
